Westmeath Councillors Speak Out On Successful High Court Battle

The ministerial order for the 1,000 capacity centre in Lissywollen has been quashed.

A Westmeath councillor involved in a High Court battle against plans for a large scale IPAS centre says he and his colleagues have stood up to the State's "dangerous" double standards.

Athlone reps contested the legality of an order by then Integration Minister Roderic O'Gorman for the 1,000 person capacity accommodation in Lissywollen.

The State now has until March to publish corrective legislation to meet planning and environmental laws, before the site is deemed illegal.

Athlone councillor Paul Hogan was the named plaintiff in the High Court case and says the right decision has been made:
