A supermarket deli worker in Westmeath has been given a suspended sentence after exposing himself when he was caught trying to break into a premises.

31 year old Dean Coster of Raithin Eoghan on the Ash Road in Mullingar tabled guilty pleas to all charges relating to the incident in April of last year, according to the Irish Independent.

Mr Coster was spotted trying to break into a shed and house on the Green Road in Mullingar on the 30th of April.

Mullingar District Court heard he was found hiding in bushes at another residence when gardaí arrived on the scene.

When he was approached he fled on to the roof of a shed and exposed himself while trying to urinate on the officers standing below.

Mr Coster became more aggresive, hurling a fence post at Gardaí before they took the decision to deploy pepper spray.

It was at this point he fell through the roof of the shed and ran for the backgarden of the house where he was finally apprehended.

Coster was subsequently charged with two counts of trespass, criminal damage, using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour as well as engaging in offensive conduct.

Defence solicitor Mark Cooney said his client had tabled early guilty pleas and was remorseful and extremely apologetic.

Judge Bernadette Owens sentenced Coster to four months in prison for one of the trespass charges, suspending its duration for a period of 18 months.

A second trespass, public order and offensive conduct charge were all taken into consideration.

Two accompanying criminal damage and failure to comply with gardaí charges were adjourned to a sitting of Mullingar District Court on November 5 for an updated restorative justice report and compensation.
