The Aidan Heavey Library in Athlone created the 'Cubbie'.
A Westmeath library is unveiling a new sensory and emotional regulation space to support calm and wellbeing.
The Aidan Heavey Library in Athlone created the 'Cubbie' as a quiet retreat from stress, anxiety, and sensory overload with soft lighting, gentle visuals, and sensory tools to help people pause, reset, and refocus.
The space is especially supportive for people with ADHD, autism, or sensory sensitivities, providing a low-distraction environment to regroup during busy days.
The initiative was developed by Westmeath County Council and the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht with support from the Community Recognition Fund.
