The Kerry TD is worried over planned cuts to the air ambulance service which has a base in Athlone.
The Minister for Farm Safety is asking Westmeath public representatives, and the public at large, to lobby the National Ambulance Service to roll back their plans to cut their air ambulance service.
Michael Healy Rae is fearful of the consequences of a diminished service, following the resignation of 10 highly skilled advanced paramedics, who have been staffing the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, which has bases in Athlone and Cork.
Reports indicate there is conflict developing between HSE management and clinical experts about a potential move from a two-person advanced paramedic crew, to one with just a solo advanced paramedic.
