Westmeath Security Analyst Wants Special Training For Paramedics

It's after 70 paramedics were assaulted on duty in 2018 and 2019. 

There's a call for new laws to be introduced to clamp down on physical attacks on the emergency services. 

It's after new figures show 70 paramedics were assaulted on duty in 2018 and 2019. 

The National Ambulance Service says there were a further 43 verbal attacks and one sexual incident. 

Security analyst and Mullingar's Declan Power claims the state needs to take stronger action against those responsible. 

The National Ambulance Service said paramedics are trained in the management of violence and aggression. 

Mr. Power says 'situational awareness' training would also help them to avoid an assault.
