Westmeath Student Entrepreneur Celebrating After European Success

He previously represented his school at the BT Young Scientist.

A midlands student is celebrating after winning gold in an European Entrepreneurship competition. 

Westmeath's Patrick D'Arcy has developed the 'Wide Awake' device, which aims to combat the phenomenon of children not waking up to smoke alarms.  

His teacher at Castlepollard Community College, Paddy Gilsenan, says it's a great achievement to come in first in the Youthstart contest:
