Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night.
A woman is in hospital following an alleged assault in Westmeath.
The incident occurred in the Battery Heights area of Athlone on Wednesday night at around 10.15.
The woman, in her 40s, was taken to Portiuncula Hospital to be treated for non-serious injuries.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have camera or dashcam footage to come forward.
