World Ploughing Contest 'Massive' For Laois, Says Organiser

It'll coincide with the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska.

The confirmation that Laois will host the World Ploughing Contest is being described as "massive for the county".

Competitors from over 25 countries will descend on the midlands for the 67th edition of the contest this September.

It'll coincide with the National Ploughing Championships, which return to Ratheniska.

Russia had been due to host this year's event, but the World Ploughing Board changed its plans following the invasion of Ukraine.

The CEO of Laois Chamber has been echoing those sentiments.

Caroline Hofman says it'll be a huge boost for the county.

She thinks it will create a buzz around the midlands, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic:
