The DPP has made the decision to appeal Joe Drennan's killer's sentence.
"You never forget that phone call"
Those are the words of Laois woman Sarah Drennan, talking about when she had to break the news to her parents that her brother and their son had died in a hit-and-run in Limerick in 2023.
With Joe Drennan's parents on holiday, Ms Drennan was the first family member informed by Gardaí of the Mountrath student's death.
The man responsible for the hit-and-run, Kieran Fogerty, received a six and a half year sentence for the crime.
However that sentence will run alongside another eight year sentence for a separate offence.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has today made the decision to appeal the sentence.
