Athlone Town Chase Promotion With Critical Game Against Wexford

They need to hold the edge against Wexford in Lissywollen.

Athlone Town's campaign to secure promotion to the SSE Airtricity Premier Division reaches a crucial stage this evening.

The midlanders are in play-off action against Wexford in Lissywollen for the first leg of their First Division semi-final.

Town's form has been inconsistent, mixing two wins with two defeats and a draw in their last five.

While their opponents have won three and lost two.

Wexford have held the edge on the head to head record this season.

Over four meetings they've beated Athlone at home and away in August, the two sides drew in May, while Athlone were impressive 3-0 winners in the league's first round back in February.

The other semi-final sees Bray taking on UCD at the Carlisle Grounds.

Kick off for both games is at 7.45pm.
