Buccaneers RFC members are undertaking a ‘WALK, RUN, CYCLE’ during the month of July to raise dearly needed funds for both the club and the South Westmeath Hospice. Both organisations have suffered significant losses of revenue due to the Covid-19 lockdown and the rugby club is calling on members to assist them in this fund-raising drive which commences on this Wednesday, July 1 ST and will continue until the end of the
month.
Lady members Judy Dowling and Geraldine Kenny are spear-heading this laudable effort and they are urging club members and their families to support the event. The target collective distance is 2,986 kilometres, equal to the mileage travelled by Buccaneers Senior team in a season to away fixtures against the other clubs in Division 2A of the All-Ireland League.
With all income streams and fund-raising events ceased due to the current pandemic, both the club and the hospice have rarely had greater need for financial support. The funds raised will be divided evenly between South Westmeath Hospice (which provides best practice palliative care for patients and their family in the end stages of life) and Buccaneers RFC.

THE BOUNTY HAS RE-OPENED
The bounty bar and venue has reopened at Dubarry Park where food will be available not only at lunchtime but also in the evenings. Pre-booking for evening meals is recommended while The Bounty (phone 0906477566) will also be offering a new takeaway service too.
This will include pizzas following the installation of a pizza oven during the lockdown. Social distancing will have to be observed and patrons will see changes in The Bounty reflecting this. We ask members and their families to support The Bounty and indeed all sponsors of Buccaneers RFC wherever possible.
TRAINING
Training for adult players from First XV to U-20’s has commenced with sessions taking place twice weekly at the moment. Training groups will be in limited numbers for the time being. Training sessions will be monitored by the club’s Covit-19 Safety Officers to ensure that the IRFU ‘Return to Rugby protocols’ are complied with. Each team, from Senior down to Minis, will have a specified Safety Officer.
CONDOLENCES
Deepest sympathy is extended to Noel and Fiona Mannion and family on the recent passing of Fiona’s father Dermot Blythe. Heartfelt condolences are extended also to Ray O’Loughlin and family on the death of his brother Brian.
