She's 41st on Athletics Ireland’s All Time Performance List for Women at the distance.
A 22 year-old Westmeath athlete has become the fastest woman over 10km in the history of the Lake County.
Mullingar Harriers' Claire Fagan ran a time of 34 minutes and 46 seconds at a meeting in Dublin.
It was a 75 second personal best, beating her 36.01 she ran in qualifying for the European U23 championships in Sweden last year.
It's been a successful 2020 so far for Fagan, who's claimed victory in the Celtic Cross Country in January and both the All Ireland U23 800m and the Irish Universities 3000m during the indoor season.
Claire ran the first half mile at 5m30 mile pace, before settling back to running 83/84 second laps and ran these consistently over the next half an hour.
After 23 laps Claire made her push for home and dropped the pace to 5m15 mile pace and as a result Claire was rapidly closing on her training partner, Tullamore Harriers Laura Mooney in the closing stages.
Laura held on to win in a time of 34.41, with Claire running 34.46.
Claire’s run places her 41st on Athletics Ireland’s All Time Performance List for Women’s 10000m.
Claire’s 10000m success comes on the back of her 2019 European medal win as part of Ireland’s U23 Women’s team.
