Laois went down meekly to Clare in Ennis

Laois football boss Mike Quirke was at a loss for words to explain his side's performance in their Allianz Football League opener. 

Clare were in control from the get go and ran out convincing 1-16 to 0-12 winners in Ennis. 

The entire performance lacked the required intensity and guile from the O'Moore county as they struggled time and again to break down the banner's blanket defence. 

There's no let up either as they must face Cork next weekend with both sides in need of a win to avoid a relegation battle in Division 2 South.

Laois' Mike Quirke was at a loss when asked to pinpoint the problems:
