Parents Paying Up To €900 For Children To Do Transition Year

The Minister For Education says it should be available to every student who wishes to participate.

Families whose children want to do transition year are paying anything from €100 to €900 just to register for the year. 

According to Saint Vincent de Paul, it's prohibiting kids from lower income families taking part in the programme.

Last March, Minister for Education Norma Foley announced that transition year should be available to 'every student who wishes to participate in the programme'.

However, Dr Tricia Kielthy, head of social justice at S-V-P, says at this very moment and time - costs remain a barrier to entry.
