14-Day Incidence Rate Of Virus Drops Below 100 Across The Midlands

Offaly now has the highest prevalence of coronavirus in the region.

The 14 day incidence rate of covid-19 has fallen below 100 in all three midlands counties for the first time since September.

We did record a rise in cases in recent weeks in the midlands, although that has now started to fall again with a just a few days of Level 5 restrictions remaining. 

Offaly has now surpassed Westmeath, with the highest 14-day incidence rate now at 98 per 100,000 people.

That's a drop from 137 last Friday.

The rate has also fallen in Westmeath from 128 seven days ago to 91 today.

And from 84 in Laois last week to 54 today.

203 new cases were confirmed in the midlands in the last 14 days, compared to 354 in the previous two weeks.

The government is set to make a formal announcement this evening on what restrictions will be in place, after the Level 5 measures end on Tuesday.
