Up to 30 new modular homes to house Ukrainian refugees could be built in a midlands town.

An 11 acre site in Laois is currently being tested to ensure its suitability with councillors being told the project could be given the go ahead shortly after that.

Planning permission will not be required as the prospective Rathdowney homes will be considered emergency accomodation.

Fine Gael Councillor John King says the town would stand to benefit from an influx of new people:
