Achievements Celebrated By Westmeath Older Persons Council

The Westmeath Older Persons Council has held its annual AGM.

Older people in the Midlands are celebrating their achievements over the past year.

The Westmeath Older Persons Council held its annual AGM, where the main focus was its Age Friendly Strategy for 2025 to 2028.

Among the discussions were the highlights and successes the council has achieved over the past year.

Key programmes were discussed, highlighting projects that have been completed and others set to be rolled out to address concerns raised by members of the council.

Chair of the council Anne Drury says each success contributes to a better quality of life for older people living in the community.

She says members of the council have a great say in the strategy and what initiatives need to take place in Westmeath to create a more comfortable life for older people living in the county.

Members asked for information on making a will, which led to the presence of Silvia Smith, development manager with Westmeath Citizens Information Services, who delivered a workshop on the process and answered any questions on the day.

Damien O’Neill, general manager of Local Link Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon, was also present to say a few words, strengthening the relationship with the Older Persons Council and taking on board ideas and suggestions to make the service more accessible.

The event finished with music, chatting and dancing, marking an important and vital day of progress and celebration of older life and the ongoing work being carried out.
