The family of Brian Stack is set to get an State apology on Wednesday.
The family of a murdered Midlands prison officer is to receive a formal State apology this week.
The apology is in relation to failings in three seperate Garda investgations into the murder of the late Portlaoise Prison Officer Brian Stack.
Mr Stack was the chief prison officer working on the IRA wing of the facility in 1983 when he was shot, and subsequently died one year later.
The Taoiseach will make his statement on Wednesday.
The family will meet with him and Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan privately at Government buildings prior to the apology.
The Stacks have been calling on the State to formally recognise its failings over the case since 2019 after the then Garda Commissioner Drew Harris acknowledged shortcomings in the investigation.
His son Austin Stack says it will be hugely significant for his family:
