Athlone Councillors Return To High Court Over Westmeath IPAS Centre

Athlone Councillors are once again in the High Court today to challenge the State on the IPAS centre.

The Government is 'hellbent' on making sure works on a Westmeath IPAS site can be deemed legal.

That's the view of Fianna Fail Councillor for Athlone Aengus O'Rourke, as today marks the 12th visit to the High Court on the issue.

Almost a year ago, local reps argued successfully the 1,000 person capacity Asylum Seeker centre in Lissywollen was illegal on environmental grounds.

The State is now preparing draft legislation in order to legalise the plans.
