Beef Quality Under Scrutiny As EU Mercosur Deal Nears Vote

A protest is being held in Athlone this weekend.

The average consumer will need to monitor beef quality more closely if the EU passes the Mersocur trade deal.

That's the view from News Editor at the Irish Farmers Journal Amy Dunne ahead of the deal's final vote tomorrow in which Ireland is expected to vote no.

A national protest is planned for Athlone on Saturday to highlight farmers concerns over the agreement.

It comes after The Food Safety Authority confirms Brazilian beef treated with illegal hormones was in the Irish food chain late last year.
