Cabinet to Consider Charges For Asylum Seekers In IPAS Centers

There are plans in place to build an IPAS centre in Athlone.

Asylum seekers in IPAS centers may have to foot some of the bill for their accommodation under proposals due to be discussed by Cabinet.

Asylum Seekers who are working here will have to pay between €15 and €238 a week for their accommodation under the proposals.

Athlone Councillor Aengus O'Rourke is part of a group of local politicians that has been campaigning against plans for a IPAS centre Lissywollen which would accommodate 1,400 asylum seeking men.
