The public consultation will end later on this month.
A public consultation on proposed changes to the canal bye-laws has been extended.
They will impact the Grand Canal, the Royal Canal and the Barrow Navigation, and also includes proposed revisions to the Shannon Navigation Bye-laws.
The suggested revisions include in-water inspections and insurance for boats, an annual registration process and speed limits for bicycles and scooters on the Greenways and Blueways.
The plans have come under fire from midlands local representatives and those living on the water, who have claimed they're being "pushed out."
Athlone's Waterways Ireland has extended the initial consultation period for the revisions, which was due to close last Monday, until October 27th.
It's also added a second phase, which will run from January 15th to February 26th next year.
The organisation says it will aim to proactively deal with "legitimate matters of concern" raised during this time.
The public consltation can be found on waterwaysireland.org.
