Completion Date Set for Offaly Road Repair Works

Edenderry Cathaoirleach Claire Murray says the major repairs have been delivered on time.

A completion date has been set for repair works on the R400 in Offaly .

During the most recent Edenderry Municipal District meeting, an update was given on the repair works currently being carried out.

Cathaoirleach of the Edenderry Municipal District, Claire Murray, says the project is on track, as the team has been fortunate not to experience any weather delays throughout the repairs.

The proposed completion date is set for the middle of November, all going to plan.

This is the third consecutive year that the road from Rhode village to Rochfortbridge has been closed for a prolonged period for repair works.

This is a pilot scheme, and Councillor Claire Murray explained that it is the first repair project in Offaly where the diversion route crosses into the neighbouring county.

She explained that this is a major infrastructure investment, as works must be carried out to a depth of one and a half metres to ensure the road is stable.

Furthermore, the local councillor highlighted how "one hundred thousand euro a year could have been spent on that road", emphasising how important these works are.

Acknowledging the impact on residents and businesses, she said they are anxious but hopeful that the project will be completed by the middle of November, adding that "we will have one good road in north Offaly".

Councillor Murray says things are moving in the right direction:
