Gardaí have detected a number of drivers speeding.
Gardaí in the midlands have detected a number of drivers speeding over the bank holiday weekend.
Offaly Roads Policing Unit stopped two motorists travelling over 30kmph above the speed limit on the Ballycumber Road in Clara in the vicinity of fatal accident earlier this year.
The drivers are being issued with fines and penalty points after being caught driving at 80/kph in a 50kmph zone and 90kmph in a 60kmph zone.
Another motorist was detected travelling at 87kmph in a 50kmph. This person had their car seized as they had no insurance and no road tax.
Another vehicle, which was being driven at 101kmph in a residential area with a speed limit of 50kmph, was also stopped.
Gardaí also met a driver overtaking on continuous white lines which resulted in driver of vehicle having to stop. They say it would have been a more serious incident.
The motorist is facing prosecution.
Gardaí are asking people to slow down and arrive alive.
