The region claimed over 30% of domestic tourists in the final three months of 2023.
The midlands and eastern region was the second most popular for domestic overnight stays in the country last year.
Figures from the CSO show in the final quarter of 2023, 36% of people took an overnight trip in the region.
The South was the most common choice, while the north west only claimed 22%.
