He had to be taken to hospital.
An elderly man is "shocked" after being assaulted at his home in the midlands.
That's according to Crime Prevention Officer in Westmeath, Sergeant John McWalters, after the man in his 70s was taken to hospital following an aggravated burglary by two people at his home in Athlone.
A sum of cash was also taken from his house.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident, and anyone with any information is being asked to contact Athlone Garda Station.
