Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary in the midlands.
Two people entered a house in Ballykeeran in Westmeath early on Saturday morning and assaulted the owner of the home, who lived alone, and stole a sum of cash.
The homeowner, a man in his 70s, was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, particularly those with camera or dashcam footage, to come forward.
