EU Council Votes On Mercosur Today

The deal is expected to pass at council level before a parliament vote in the coming weeks.

If the Mercosur trade deal is voted through today, the IFA will intensify its lobbying campaign to stop its progress through the European Parliament.

Member states are likely to back the agreement with South American countries, unless more countries oppose it.

Ireland is among those planning to oppose the deal over farmers' concerns about the standard of imported beef.
