Former Laois Post Office Gets Green Light To Convert To Café

Developers plan to extend the space.

Planning permission is being granted to convert a long vacant former Laois post office into a new café and restaurant.

The building on Main Street in Portarlington, was sold in June 2025 after going on the market for €350,000.

Developers plan to extend the space by incorporating part of an adjoining Georgian property and adding a small rear extension.

Both protected structures will be preserved, with designs respectful to their historic character.

Laois County Council approved the project this month, subject to 17 planning conditions.
