The proposal has received widespread support from Westmeath County Council.
Free period products are to be made available in public buildings in Westmeath over the coming months.
The local authority has agreed to roll-out the measure, in council offices, swimming pools and libraries.
Green Party Councillor Louise Heavin, who proposed the idea, says she's received the support of all of her Municipal District colleagues and council officials.
She says it's already been implemented in Dublin City, Wexford and Wicklow:
