The assault left a man in a serious condition in hospital.
A boy has been arrested in relation to an assault in Laois that left a man seriously injured.
The attack took place on Main Street, Portlaoise in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A boy, under the age of 18, was detained by gardaí yesterday and has since been released without charge.
Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to the incident - particularly anyone who was near the junction of Main Street and Church Street, Portlaoise between 3 and 3:30 on Saturday morning.
