He suffered facial injuries in the incident, which occurred on the Conoboro Road in Rathdowney, at around 9pm last night.
The driver of the taxi was taken to Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment of serious injuries.
Investigating officers say they're following a definite line of inquiry, but are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
