Human remains were found in Lough Ree earlier this week.
Gardaí are returning to the scene of the discovery of ancient human remains in Westmeath.
The Garda Water Unit in Athlone along a forensic anthropologist team will be on Carberry Island in Lough Ree this morning to examine the area.
It comes after a man found a skull on the island earlier this week after a fallen tree had revealed the skeletal remains.
The RNLI will be providing its lifeboat station at Coosan Point as a base to assist the joint operation which involves the State Pathologists Office, and the National Museum.
