High Rate Of Drug Offences In The Midlands

Figures released by the CSO shows the rate of crime in each Garda Division throughout the year. 

Westmeath is one of ten counties with an above average crime rate for 2018.

Westmeath has the second highest rate of drug offences in the country. 

It's also second in the table in relation to kidnapping offences behind Dublin North Central. 

Meanwhile Laois/Offaly has the 4th highest rate of drug offences - almost double the national average. 

There are also more cases of Assault and Harassment in the division  than they are in urban areas like Limerick and Cork.  

North Inner Dublin has the highest crime rate in the country - accounting for almost 1 in 10 of the total recorded crimes. 

The national crime rate for 2018 was 459 per 10,000 of the population.
