The stone cross is now being returned to the people of Abbeyleix.
A town in the Midlands is preparing to welcome back a long lost sentimental piece of history.
Brigidine Convent School in Abbeyleix was demolished in the early 90s leaving no trace of its existence, until local historian Noel Burke received a call on January 12th to say that a stone cross had survived.
A worker recognised the historical importance of the cross that once sat atop the convent and brought it home where it has remained for over 30 years.
The cross is now being gifted back to the people of Abbeyleix.
