The local authority selected it's first female Cathaoirleach.
After 126 years, Westmeath County Council has elected its first female cathaoirleach, Cllr Aoife Davitt of Fianna Fáil.
She was chosen for the role on Monday, taking over the position from Liam McDaniel of Fianna Fáil, with Cllr Paul Hogan appointed as leas-cathaoirleach.
The Fianna Fáil rep is prioritising having more women involved in politics within communities.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael’s Barry Walsh was officially elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council.
