HSE Warns Poultry Farmers To Get Flu Shot Amid Bird Flu Cases

Bird flu has been found in turkey flocks in Carlow and Meath.

Poultry farmers are being asked to get the seasonal flu vaccine to prevent the mix of bird flu and human flu.

The HSE says there's a risk if they get both of "viral reassortment," which is a potential risk of viruses swapping genetic material.

There are detections of bird flu in turkey flocks in Counties Carlow and Meath which are being culled.

HSE Director of National Health Protection, Dr Éamonn O'Moore says if both flus mixed, it could be a problem:
