IFA President Backs Protests As Dawn Farm Controversy Escalates

Bord Bia Chairperson Larry Murrin is being questioned by TDs and Senators today.

The Justice Minister says lobby groups shouldn't have the power to push people out of public positions.

Members of the IFA have occupied Bord Bia's offices in Dublin as part of an ongoing demonstration calling for its chairperson, Larry Murrin, to resign.

Farmers are also protesting at Leinster House this afternoon, as Mr Murrin faces questions from TDs and Senators over why his company, Dawn Farm Foods, imported one per cent of its beef from Brazil.

Meanwhile, The President of the IFA, Ballinakill's Francie Gorman, is defending its position to protest against Bord Bia. 

He says they have a right to express their views: 

The chair of Bord Bia is hitting back at what he says is the ‘misconception of conflict of interest’ around his role at the agency.

Larry Murrin is appearing at the Oireachtas Agriculture committee this afternoon, following calls from farming groups for him to step down.
  
The CEO of Dawn Farm Foods confirmed his company imported less than one per cent of its beef from Brazil.
  
Mr Murrin says sourcing a small amount of beef from outside Ireland does not diminish his company’s commitment to Irish beef or farmers:
