A man has since been arrested.
An investigation is underway after a garda was assaulted in Offaly.
The incident occurred while gardaí were carrying out an arrest on Townsend Street in Birr at about 1 o'clock on the morning of Sunday 11th September.
The garda required treatment for minor injuries.
The suspect, a man in his 20s, was taken to Birr Garda Station.
He has since been charged, contrary to Section 4 and Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, and appeared before Tullamore District Court yesterday morning.
