Gardaí have launched an investigation into possible criminal gang activity in Roscommon.
It's after a number of people were seen wearing balaclavas in a dark-coloured Volkswagon Golf last Thursday evening, in the Woodview/Hawthorne Drive area of Roscommon Town.
The suspected gang members were disturbed by officers during an alleged break-in attempt, after which the driver of the Volkswagon attempted to ram a Garda car.
It's understood they fled in the direction of Athlone, while some remained on foot and were seen traveling through fields.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact Roscommon Garda Station.
