St Brigid's Hospital in Portlaoise was found non-compliant in two regulation areas.
A Laois nursing home has been cited in how it handles challenging behaviour and it's protection measures against abuse after a HIQA inspection earlier this year.
Officials from the health watchdog deemed St Brigid's Hospital in Portlaoise non-compliant in two of the nine regulations they were assessed on.
During the unannounced inspection in May, HIQA noted a calm environment within St Brigid's, where residents’ rights were supported by a team of staff who knew them well.
But the report found that while staff achieved compliance in safeguarding vulnerable adults, only 12 per cent of them had completed training in responsive behaviour.
This meant dealing with how people with dementia or other conditions can express discomfort.
Individual measures to relax residents were present in care plans, but were not always carried out during incidents.
The health watchdog also noted that all reasonable measures to protect residents from abuse had not been taken, citing an example of an abuse investigation that had not been properly conducted.
They also noted safeguarding plans were too generalised and lacked a resident-focused approach.
A compliance plan by HIQA was issued to St Brigid's, with staff to start more training and workshops on responsive behaviours this month.
The nursing home says the abuse allegation highlighted has now been fully investigated and written report on it is available to officials on request.
