The average cost of rent for new tenants in Laois saw the largest increase in the country in the final quarter of last year.
The average monthly fee for new tenancies in the county was over €1,200, a jump of 14.5% when compared to the third quarter of 2023.
The Residential Tenancies Board's Index for Q4 found the average cost of rent for new tenants in the midlands was more than €1,100.
Prices jumped by 3.9% in Westmeath, with the average cost of rent there being €1,250.
Rental fees in Offaly fell by 5%, among the largest drops in the country - the average new tenant there pays just over €1,000.
One of the highest price discrepancies between new and existing tenants can be found in Westmeath, where the difference is €321.
Rent for new tenancies costs more than one thousand euro in 22 counties, with the highest in Dublin, at €2,000, and the lowest in Leitrim, with €907.
