Ireland's first ever library of sanctuary is being launched in Laois today.
Portlaoise Library is has been awarded the title for fostering a culture of welcome and inclusion towards new people in the community, particularly refugees and asylum seekers.
It involves implementing measures to break down barriers, including interactive learning about other nationalities, races and religions, and printing notices in multiple languages.
The library of sanctuary is being officially launched by Laois Cathaoirleach Willie Aird at 12 noon.
Tiffy Allen, National Co-Ordinator of 'Places of Sanctuary Ireland', says a number of schools and universities already have sanctuary status - but Portlaoise is the first library:
