Laois TD Calls For Expanded Age Limit For School Bus Drivers

Independent rep Brian Stanley says the Transport and Education departments need to engage more on the issue.

A Laois TD says the under-performing school transport system will never improve unless it expands its recruitment of drivers.

Independent rep Brian Stanley says the Ministers for Transport and Education need to hold conversations regarding the lack of human contact with Bus Éireann and inconvenient pick-up points.

The government has set out plans to expand the school transport scheme to cover 100 thousand more pupils.

However, Deputy Stanley believes this will only be possible if the age limit for bus drivers is increased to 70.

He says these issues will get worse if they aren't resolved soon:
