Over €1m is the total cost of bus stop upgrades in a Laois town, with the county also having the most expensive wheelchair accessible shelters installed in Ireland.
New National Transport Authority figures show 70 newly upgraded bus stops and shelters in Portlaoise cost a total of €1.6m.
While two new wheelchair accessible shelters in Mountrath cost over €61,000 each, with footpath and drainage works bumping project costs up.
