Councillors want to see the local rivers cleaned.
It's "nonsense" that local rivers can't be cleaned.
That's the message from Laois County Councillors as they discussed the draft Climate Action Plan.
Members of the local authority raised concerns about the lack of work being carried on rivers in the county at today's monthly meeting.
Fine Gael's Willie Aird wants the Chief Executive to raise the issue with the Department of the Environment at their next meeting.
He says he has never seen so much rain so early on in the year and the height of the River Triogue is making him very nervous.
His party colleague PJ Kelly says he has land under water and that last Saturday, his brother had to retrieve cattle from a field as they had water up to their bellies.
He says enough is enough, and that in some places along the River Barrow swans are unable to stretch their wings, due to the weeds.
Independent Councillor Ben Brennan says action needs to be taken as the area around the Barrow is flooded for up to six months of the year and farmers have to bring their cattle in early.
