The new model is set to come into effect for the HSE and related services in July.
A Longford-Westmeath TD is backing a new autism assessment of need approach set to be introduced this summer.
The Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill says the new system within the HSE and related services will reduce high waiting list numbers.
It will also allow for an adult to refer themselves for assessment if they believe they have autism.
