31-year-old Brendan Cummins, of Lios Dubh, Armagh Road, Dundalk, also faces a charge of resisting arrest.
The Portlaoise District Court heard the alleged incident occurred on February 16, 2026, when he is accused of striking the governor and injuring a chief officer.
He told the court he had not yet consulted his solicitor and did not wish to enter a plea.
Judge Andrew Cody remanded him on bail to appear by video link on September 14.
