He appeared before Athlone District Court this morning.
A man charged with the assault of an elderly woman in an Athlone nursing home has been further remanded in custody pending a psychiatric assessment.
54-year-old Peter Keaney, of 7 Hillside Close, Monksland Athlone, Co Roscommon, appeared on Wednesday morning before Judge Vincent Deane at Athlone District Court.
Mr Keaney is charged with section 3 assault causing harm to a woman in her 80s after allegedly entering Sonas Nursing Home on Monday night of last week.
He was remanded in custody to June 5th when he will reappear at Athlone District Court via video link.
A psychiatric report is expected to be furnished to the court and no there has been no indication that he intends to apply for bail.
