MEP Warns Of Rising Drug Driving After Garda Checkpoints Fall In Laois And Offaly

In 2019, Ireland recorded 140 road fatalities, 45 less than the figure for 2025.

Garda drug and drink driving checkpoints in Laois and Offaly are down significantly according to new Garda PULSE data.

EU Transport Committee MEP, Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is highlighting a pronounced increase in drug driving after the release of the figures.

From Q3 of 2024 to the same time last year, there was a 25% decrease in the number of Mandatory Intoxication Testing in the Laois Offaly Division.

However in Meath/Westmeath, MIT checkpoints are up 39%.
